Katsu-Don (Rice Bowl with Deep-Fried Pork Cutlet and Egg)

Katsu-Don or deep-fried pork cutlet and egg bowl is one of the most popular rice bowls in Japan. Katsu, in Japanese, means “deep-fried” but it also means “to win”. So people often like to eat this rice bowl the night before an important sport event, as we believe “katsu-don” will bring a good luck. I didn’t really have anything I needed to win, but this rice bowl itself was a winner at our house!
Cook deep-fried pork and sliced onion in a mixture of soy sauce, dashi, water, mirin, sugar, add eggs, and cook until the egg white is no longer too runny. Serve the whole thing on cooked white rice.

久々に食べたかつ丼！
アメリカにしては薄めにスライスされた豚肉（日本のとんかつ用にぴったりぐらいの薄さ）をパックで買ったので、全部とんかつにした。
かつ丼は、次の日に作ったもの。
美味しかった～。
テリーにも好評。
まあ、もともととんかつ、好きな人だからね～。
日本食レストランに行くと、よく頼むのも、とんかつ定食だし。
全仏オープンテニス、女子決勝戦、はらはらしながら今日テリーとテレビで観戦。
こちらの朝に放映されていたものを録画しておいて午後に見たのだけれど、途中でもうはらはらしすぎて、実はインターネットで誰が優勝したのかこっそり見てしまった（笑）。
李娜選手、四大大会で優勝した初めてのアジア人、ということで話題になりましたね～。
とっても見応えのある試合で、“頑張りましたね、おめでとう！！”と言いたいです。
これを機に、テニスも今後、日本人はもとよりアジア人、頑張って欲しいと思います。

どんぶりマニアですから。
アメリカ人の旦那さんもかつ丼好きだとはちょっと驚いております。
でもこれは万国共通の美味しさなんでしょうか？
ちょっと嬉しくなってしまいますわ。
後は普通にとんかつ定食で食べられたのですか？
とんかつが残ってるならば…今度はカツカレーにして食べて下さい（笑）

カツ丼！！！おいしそう！食べたいです！
数日前に日本に帰国して、やっと荷物の片づけが済んだ所なんですが、1ヶ月以上ぶりにお料理をして(笑)、ちょっと戸惑い中です。日本食たべてなかったから、こういう写真みるとたまんないです(´∀｀)

Yum! I’m a 豚カツ fan and I will get it for lunch sometimes when I go to Japanese restaurants. I will have to get the カツ丼 next time I go.
I didn’t really watch the tennis match, but I saw it on the news later. That’s pretty neat that Li Na won.

とんかつを揚げた日は、揚げたての美味しさをしっかり堪能しました。
そちらもまた近々アップする予定です。

一ヶ月以上料理をしない、ってどんな感じがなかなか想像がつきません。
久々の日本食って美味しいものですよね。
インド料理を食べられる機会はあったのでしょうか（笑）？

Terry likes 豚カツ, too. I think this is the first time I made katu-don for him. I’m glad that he liked it. When my mom made ton-katsu for dinner, she almost always made カツ丼 with leftover ton-katsu the next day.
It was a great match. Women’s tennis is usually not as interesting as men’s (sad to say…), but this match was really exciting and fun to watch. Li Na played very well.
