Turkey Sweet Potato Chili

The natural sweetness of the sweet potato was wonderful in this chili. It seems to balance the spiciness of the chili. I like to add various sauces to create a rich interesting flavor when I use turkey instead of beef for chili.
Turkey and sweet potato chili: salad oil, garlic, turkey, onion, celery, carrot, sweet potato, black beans, pureed canned tomato, bay leaf, water, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, chipotle sauce, chili powder, sugar, salt, pepper

七面鳥とスイートポテトのチリコンカン

いつもは牛ひき肉で作ることが多いチリコンカン。
今回はやっぱり少しだけヘルシーに、ということで、七面鳥ひき肉で作ってみた。
牛に比べると味が淡白なので、しっかり味をつけるのがポイント。
私はバーベキューソースや、ウォーセスターシャーソース（ウスターソースに似たもの）、チポートレソースなどを入れてやる。
今回のチリコンカンのユニークなポイントは、スイートポテトを入れたこと。
日本のサツマイモとはぜんぜん違うけれど、ほんのり甘みがあるスイートポテト。
しっかり味で少しスパイシーなチリコンカンをいい感じに調和してくれる感じ。
七面鳥とスイートポテトのチリコンカン： サラダ油、にんにく、七面鳥ひき肉（または鶏ひき肉）、玉ねぎ、セロリ、にんじん、スイートポテト、ブラックビーズ缶詰、缶詰トマトをピュレーしたもの、水、チキンベース、ローリエ、チリパウダー、バーベキューソース、ウォーセスターシャーソース、チポートレソース、砂糖、塩、こしょう

This really sounds wonderful. We substitute ground turkey for beef or sausage in a lot of things now. Patrisha’s lasagne is just as good with turkey in it.
I would never have thought of sweet potato in chili though. You’re so inventive 🙂

チリコンカン…これはアメリカっぽい料理ですね。
名前はよく聞きますがわたくしは未食でございます。
味の想像も全く付きません^^v
「七面鳥」って言うのもまたアメリカっいです。
なんとなくクリスマスを思い起こしてしまうフレーズですわ。
まだまだ世の中には未食の料理が色々あるのだと改めて実感した次第です。
これからも料理の勉強を怠らないようにしたいと思います（笑）

Terry and I have been cutting down on red meat, too and I’m actually having fun with using turkey and chicken for traditionally beef dishes. Sweet potato was great in chili. I think butternut squash would be tasty, too.

チリコンカン、日本ではチリコンカルネなどとも呼ばれるかもしれません。
アメリカの南部州で産まれたこの料理、現在ではアメリカ中で人気料理の一つなんですよ。
こちらでは、簡単に、チリ、と呼ばれてます。
要は、ひき肉、豆、トマトをチリスパイスと一緒にぐつぐつと煮込んだものです。
七面鳥、というと確かにクリスマスとか感謝祭などを思い浮かべられるかもしれませんね。
こちらでは鶏肉とともにとっても身近なものなんですよ。

I loved sweet potatoes in my chili. I think everyone should try it(lol)! Butternut squash would be also good in chili, I think. It would bring some seasonal goodiness, too.
