I hardly ever go to the fast food restaurant for breakfast, so when I do I get excited (lol). My favorite fast food breakfast choices are Burger King’s CROISSAN’WICH and McDonald’s McGriddle.

Here is the homemade breakfast sandwich I made being inspired by those fast food sandwiches. I used store-bought muffin-shaped croissant-like bread, which was sold as “butterflake bread”. Horizontally cut the bread in half. Place a slice of cheese on the bottom half and warm it up until the cheese melts. Then sandwich cooked egg and sausage patty. I lightly brushed maple syrup on the cut side of the bread, by doing which I wanted to add the sweet and savory flavor you find in McGriddle. It’s not the same, but it was pretty tasty!

ファーストフード店で朝食ってほとんどしないんだけれど、旅行中なんかの時に時々行くと結構わくわくしてしまったりする。

好きなのは、バーガーキングのクロワッサンでできたサンドイッチやマクドナルドのマクグリドルというサンドイッチ。

先日スーパーで、“バターフレークブレッド”という名前で売っていたパンを見つけて、そうだ、これを使ってうちでもファーストフードみたいな朝食サンドイッチを作ろうと思い立った。

このパン、ようするに、クロワッサン生地をマフィン型で焼いたようなもの。
バターがたっぷり入っていて軽い感じ。

パンを横半分に切ったら、チーズをのせて電子レンジでチーズが少し溶けるまで温める。
あらかじめ焼いておいた卵（ちと薄すぎた？）、朝食用ソーセージパティとして売っているソーセージ（ハンバーグみたいなの）を入れてサンドイッチにしたら出来上がり。

今回の隠し味は、パンの切り口に軽くメープルシロップを塗ったこと。
マクグリドルみたいに、ちょっと甘いパンで出来たサンドイッチ、というのを目指したもんで。。。

美味しかったけれど、やっぱり朝でも野菜がほしい～！、なんていう私はアメリカでは生き残れないかも？（苦笑）

I wanted to make something green for Saint Patrick’s Day, but I was not well prepared… With the ingredients I happened to have in the house I decided to make green sauce to make our meal look at least partly green-colored.

Green sauce: green onion, cilantro, lime juice, lime zest, cooked garlic, vinegar, honey, salt, pepper, (salad oil)

先日はアイルランドの聖パトリックという祝日だった。

聖パトリックといえば緑色、ということで、アメリカだと川を緑色に染めてしまったり、緑色に着色したビールを出すお店なんかもある。
（アイルランドに実際に暮らす友だちに聞いたら、アイルランドでは、“素晴らしいギネスビールを着色するなんてとんでもない！”ということで、本場ではしないらしいが。）

私も何か緑色のものを食卓にのせよう、と思ったものの、アイデアが浮かばず、とりあえず出来たのが、緑のソースをかけたステーキ。
　
緑のソースはフレッシュで好きな味。
ビーフステーキもさっぱり食べられる。
緑色のハーブだったら多分何を入れてもいいと思う。
パセリとか、ミントとかでも。。。

緑のソース：　にんにくをゆでてつぶしたもの、香菜、小葱、ライムの皮、ライム果汁、蜂蜜、酢、塩、こしょう、（オリーブオイル　又はサラダオイル）

Terry and I are both green tea lovers. We start our day with a cup of green tea and we enjoy another cup at the end of the day. On the weekend we drink green tea throughout the day. We go through lots of mug cups and a collection of our mugs has started to grow the last few years. These cups are the new addition to our collection. I love the colors and designs, and the details are amazing. They are so pretty that I sometimes use them for not only tea but also other things, like this, curry.

最近は私よりも緑茶党のテリー。

コーヒーも買ってあるのだけれど、最近は来客の時ぐらいにしかコーヒーは淹れず、普段は二人とも緑茶をすする毎日（笑）。

そんなこともあって、緑茶用に使うマグカップが増えている。

このマグカップは最近購入したもの。

色もデザインもかなり気に入ってしまって、お茶だけじゃなくって、こんな風にカレーも入れてしまった（笑）。

オレンジ色のはテリー専用、緑色のは私専用（テリーはオレンジ色好き）。

チキンとスイートポテトのカレー：バター、にんにく、玉ねぎ、セロリ、鶏肉胸肉、スイートポテト、缶詰トマトをピュレーしたもの、カレーペースト、ベイリーフ、水、チキンベース、ココナッツミルク、砂糖、塩、こしょう、香菜

You can add any meat and vegetable to fried rice in my opinion. But I had never thought about using tofu until several weeks ago. I found a small piece of tofu I wanted to use in the fridge and I decided to add diced tofu to my fried rice. It turned out very good. I don’t know why I didn’t try this before. I love the combination of tofu, pork, and kimchi. It’s very satisfying.

Fried rice with tofu: oil, cooked brown Jasmine rice, pork, egg, tofu, green onion, kimchi, sugar, soy sauce, salt, pepper, (sesame oil)

豚キムチ豆腐チャーハン

久しぶりに作った炒飯。

たまたま冷蔵庫に残っていた豆腐があって、炒飯に豆腐、初めて入れてみたら、これが美味しくってびっくり。

豚肉、豆腐、卵、キムチ、小ねぎ入りの簡単炒飯。

豚肉、豆腐、キムチはやっぱり王道の組み合わせだと思う。

豆腐炒飯：サラダ油、ブラウンジャズミンライス、豚肉、豆腐、卵、キムチ、小ねぎ、醤油、砂糖、塩、こしょう、（好みで胡麻油）

A few months ago at the local discount grocery store Terry and I found this package of mini salad leaves, called Artisan Lettuce, produced by Tanimura and Antle. Once we tried it and found out how fresh they were and how long they stayed fresh, we’ve become its big fan. We buy the “4 Count Clamshell” and four small heads of gourmet salad leaves come in this package. They make a fantastic salad.

半熟卵といんげんのサラダ

名前の通りのサラダ。
半熟卵と茹でたいんげんとサラダリーフ、そしてベーコン入り。

このサラダリーフ、最近気に入っていてよく買っているもの。

プラスチックのパッケージに、小さなグルメレタスが四つ入って売っている。
リーフだけ入っているものに比べると、この丸ごとレタスの方がフレッシュさが長く保たれるような気がする。

昨日今日とたまたま人に会う機会が多く、“日本の家族は大丈夫？”と皆聞いてくれる。
もちろんそれに続いて地震の話になるのだけれど、繰り返し耳にするのが、“日本（日本人）はResilient（レジリエント）だから。”
“Resilient（レジリエント）”というのは、回復力のある、とか、頑張り続ける、負けずに打ち勝つ、と言ったような意味。
自分でもそうは思うのだけれど、それでも今回の被害の大きさを思うと、Resilientでいられるのか。。。
不安ながらもそうであってほしいと願うばかり。

東京に暮らす友達から今日メールが来て、彼女も彼女の経営するレストランも無事とのこと。
地震のニュースが入ってからずっと気になっていたので、ほっとしている。
でもメールによると、電気や食糧不足が心配とのこと。
遠くからだけれど、しっかり見守っていきたい。

Perfectly cooked pot stickers. I’m so proud of myself (lol). In my opinion, a perfect pot sticker should have a crispy bottom, the rest of the wrapper should be moist, and the filling should stay juicy. Just like these! I haven’t really mastered the skills yet, and I can cook them this nicely probably once in five times… Other four times the wrappers tend to stick to the frying pan… I know these are called “pot stickers” but it’s not fun when that actually happens!

東日本大震災・白菜餃子
夕食　２０１１年２月２５日

大震災のニュース、こちらでも大きく取り上げられている。
私は出来るだけ沢山情報を入手しようと、こちらのメディアと日本のメディアと両方使いながら状況を見守っているところ。
地震は日本で何度も体験したことはあるものの、一番大きかったものが多分震度２ぐらいだったはず。
それでもかなり怖い思いをしたのに。。。
今回のマグニチュードの大きさ、津波のパワー、被害の悲惨さに、いまさらながら天災の恐ろしさを痛感する。

被災地域の方々には心よりお見舞い申し上げます。
救助を待っている方々には一刻も早く助けが届くことを祈ります。

（私の家族は中部地方で皆無事です。心配してくださった方、ありがとうございます。）

本日アップしているのは、キャベツの代わりに白菜を入れて作った餃子。
焼いてみるとほとんど違いが分からなかった（苦笑）。
