{"id":45226,"date":"2017-09-11T21:48:17","date_gmt":"2017-09-12T01:48:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/?p=45226"},"modified":"2017-09-11T22:27:01","modified_gmt":"2017-09-12T02:27:01","slug":"miso-eggplant-stuffed-oyaki%e5%91%b3%e5%99%8c%e8%8c%84%e5%ad%90%e3%81%8a%e7%84%bc%e3%81%8d","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/?p=45226&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Miso Eggplant Stuffed Oyaki<br>\u5473\u564c\u8304\u5b50\u304a\u713c\u304d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45227 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/14.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"717\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/14.jpg 547w, https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/14-321x450.jpg 321w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Oyaki is a traditional Japanese snack which is basically a thick chewy dumpling with filling inside which can be sweet or savory.<\/p>\n<p>This was actually the first time I made Oyaki, and it quickly became my favorite!<\/p>\n<p>Oyaki is an awesome snack for many reasons; 1) you can eat it with a hand; 2) it doesn&#8217;t contain much fat or sugar; 3) it&#8217;s filling and satisfying.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45228 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/22.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"717\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They were surprisingly easy to make, and it didn&#8217;t take long at all once I prepared the filling.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45230 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/10-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"717\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/10-1.jpg 547w, https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/10-1-321x450.jpg 321w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45232 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/15-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"717\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/15-1.jpg 546w, https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/15-1-320x450.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This time I decided to make a savory version and used eggplant for the filling.<\/p>\n<p>Eggplant is known to be paired up with tomatoes, but in Japan the &#8220;miso x eggplant&#8221; combination is a popular one.<\/p>\n<p>Eggplant was sauteed first and then coated with sweet miso sauce.<\/p>\n<p>Very tasty!!<\/p>\n<div id=\"recipe\">\n<strong>Miso Eggplant Stuffed Oyaki<\/strong> makes about 8<\/p>\n<p>miso eggplant filling<br \/>\n&#8211; 1~2 eggplant, cut into small pieces<br \/>\n&#8211; canola oil<br \/>\n&#8211; salt and pepper<br \/>\n&#8211; 1\/4 cup sake<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 tablespoon sugar<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 tablespoon dark &#8220;haccho&#8221; miso<br \/>\n&#8211; water<br \/>\noyaki wrappers<br \/>\n&#8211; 400g all purpose flour<br \/>\n&#8211; 3g salt<br \/>\n&#8211; 300ml boiling water<br \/>\ncanola oil for frying<br \/>\nwater for steaming<\/p>\n<p>1. Make filling. Sautee eggplant in oil. Salt and pepper. Add sake and boil. Add sugar. In a small bowl put miso and add a little water and stir until the miso is not too thick. Add the miso to the eggplant. Coat the eggplant with the miso\/sugar sauce well.<br \/>\n2. Make oyaki wrappers. Combine all the ingredients. Mix well and divide into 8 balls.<br \/>\n3. Flatten the balls, place the filling, and wrap them well. Make them disk-shaped.<br \/>\n4. Cook them with oil in a pan for a few minutes each side until browned. Add water that comes up to one fourth of the Oyaki.
