it had a lighter color when creamed but when it was added to the sauce, it turned the sauce into this beautiful dark brown color!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45009 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/17-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"717\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Placed with the dumplings on the plate were sauteed spinach.<\/p>\n<p>I love these spinach that have stems, and whenever I see fresh ones, I grab them.<\/p>\n<p>This spinach is from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freshthyme.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fresh Thyme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45010 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.culinarytribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/23-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"recipe\">\n<strong> Roasted Spiced Butternut Squash Dumplings with Walnut Gravy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>roasted spiced butternut squash dumplings &#8211; makes about 16~20<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 butternut squash, peeled and cut into small cubes<br \/>\n&#8211; olive oil<br \/>\n&#8211; salt and pepper<br \/>\n&#8211; 1\/2 garlic<br \/>\n&#8211; maple syrup<br \/>\n&#8211; sugar<br \/>\n&#8211; cinnamon<br \/>\n&#8211; ground dry ginger<br \/>\n&#8211; nutmeg<br \/>\n&#8211; salt and pepper<br \/>\n&#8211; about 16 to 20 pot-sticker wrappers<br \/>\nwalnut gravy<br \/>\n&#8211; 1\/3 cup walnut<br \/>\n&#8211; boiled water<br \/>\n&#8211; olive oil<br \/>\n&#8211; 2 garlic, chopped<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 small onion, chopped<br \/>\n&#8211; 1\/2 can whole tomatoes (14oz), pureed<br \/>\n&#8211; cane sugar<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 bay leaf<br \/>\n&#8211; salt and pepper<br \/>\n&#8211; a pinch of baking soda<br \/>\nchopped parsley<\/p>\n<p>1. Preheat oven to 400F. Place butternut squash and garlic on a pan lined with foil. Sprinkle olive oil, salt, and pepper. Roast for about 20 minutes or the squash and garlic are cooked through.<br \/>\n2. Combine the roasted squash, roasted garlic, maple syrup, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Roughly mash the squash and garlic.<br \/>\n3. Wrap the squash filling in wrappers.<br \/>\n4. Boil water in a pot. Place the dumplings in a small batch at a time. Cook for a few minutes; when the dumplings float up to the surface, they are done.<br \/>\n5. Make walnut gravy. Soak walnut in boiled water that barely covers the nuts for about a half hour.<br \/>\n6. Cook galic and onion in olive oil.<br \/>\n7. Add tomato puree, sugar, bay leaf, salt, pepper, and baking soda (a very tiny little bit at a time).<br \/>\n8. Puree the walnuts using a hand blender until creamy.<br \/>\n9. Add the walnut cream. Mix well. Salt and pepper, and maybe more sugar to achieve your preferred saltiness\/sweetness.<br \/>\n10. Serve the dumplings with the gravy.
