But Terry and I just loved the fake strawberry cake we found at Walmart almost a year ago. (I still love cakes with fresh strawberries, but this cake was so good in a very different way.) It was made of a few layers of pink sponge cake with pink frosting with no fresh strawberries found anywhere in or on the cake. It was unbelievably delicious. We have been looking for this cake (we call it &#8220;fake strawberry cake&#8221;) every time we have a chance to go to this store, and we have been out of luck. I have a feeling that they discontinued to make this cake for some reason.<\/p>\n<p>Last week Terry and I were so in a mood for the cake, and we decided to make our own &#8220;fake strawberry cake&#8221;. We bought a small bottle of strawberry extract, and a box of strawberry cake mix from a local grocery store. Who knew you can buy strawberry cake mix at a regular grocery store! We found strawberry frosting, too, but Terry decided to use regular frosting (vanilla) and added strawberry extract to give strawberry flavor and the pink color.<\/p>\n<p>The cake was actually made entirely by my husband (I put this piece together for pictures). It was absolutely delicious, as good as, or even better than the one from Walmart.
