Rice Bowl with Chipotle beef<\/strong>
\nLunch January 25, 2009<\/em><\/p>\n

The beef rice bowl is another popular Japanese dish. There is a chain restaurant called “Yoshino-ya” found in almost every city in Japan that specializes in gyu-don, or beef rice bowl. They serve quick, inexpensive, and tasty lunches to a number of businessmen every day. I’ve never been to the restaurant. It’s a little intimidating to sit at the counter (I believe they only have counter seats and no tables) in a room full of suit-dressed men. But I might try next time when I go back to Japan. It will be an interesting experience.<\/p>\n

This is certainly not a traditional beef rice bowl. This rice bowl is jazzed up with chipotle sauce, lots of vegetables, and avocado. I found this chipotle sauce at World Market a few weeks ago. This is a great sauce: hot, sweet, and tangy. Terry and I are planning to go back to the store and get some more, like five more bottles!<\/p>\n
