I was so excited when I found these Japanese sweet potatoes at an Asian grocery store last weekend. Roasted sweet potato is called “yaki-imo” in Japanese, which literally means roasted potato, and it’s one of very popular traditional snacks in the wintertime in Japan. The best roasted yaki-imo is slow roasted while buried in hot stones. This is called “ishi yaki-imo”, which means stone roasted potato. You can easily find trucks that sell these ishi yaki-imo because they announce their arrival with a very catchy tune. Just the smell of this yaki-imo brought back old childhood memories to me… It’s so sweet and delicious as it is, but I also like to eat it with butter.<\/p>\n
