<\/a><\/p>\nKolache<\/strong> I get food ideas from various sources, like friends, family, magazines, TV shows, restaurants, etc… But this one was a bit unique… Terry and I were at Trader Joe’s liquor store right before Christmas. The cashier person started a friendly chat with us asking if we were ready for Christmas. When we said yes and asked him the same question, he said “almost”. He said his wife was making kolache right at that moment. He explained “For me, Christmas is not Christmas without my wife’s kolache”. I had never heard of kolache and I googled it once I got home.<\/p>\n Here is my first kolache (I used this recipe<\/a>). I made these for our casual get-together on New Year’s eve. I used apricot and lingonberry jam for filling. They were pretty good. The cookie\/pastry is light and flaky. This is great with a cup of coffee or tea.
