Shiso is a type of Japanese herb.
It has such a unique flavor and it’s hard to explain to people who have never tried it before.
I usually tell people that it’s a Japanese basil because it can be used in place of basil for most dishes, although the flavor is quite different from basil.
This beautiful dried shiso was given by a friend unexpectedly, and I was waiting for the perfect time to use it.
When I got these beautiful king mushrooms from the local Asian market, I thought it would be perfect to make shiso flavored pasta dish with sauteed king mushrooms.
It was absolutely delicious!!
The king mushrooms, shiso, soy olive oil, and scallions…
Big flavors burst in your mouth!
This is another good example to show that you don’t need to have meat or dairy products to make a flavorful dish!
