Brussels Sprouts Fritters
When I buy vegetables that need to be cooked (steamed, boiled, or roasted, etc.) to eat, I usually buy two bags at a time.
If you have to take the extra step, I don’t want to do it only to be able to use them for one meal.
But a few weekends ago when I opened two bags of brussels sprouts at home, I was a bit overwhelmed.
I guess I didn’t realize there were so many in each bag.
I usually like to roast Brussels sprouts, but this time I decided to have a little fun by deep-frying a few.
These fritters are super yummy!!
The outside is crispy and the inside is tender and sweet.
Terry is not a big fan of Brussels sprouts, but he ate the whole bowl of them by himself!
These are a perfect snack but they can be also served as a side dish for a burger or a sandwich in place of french fries.
Brussels Sprouts Fritters
5~6 Brussels sprouts, cut in half
canola oil for deep-frying
batter (I apologize in advance. I didn’t measure the ingredients to make the batter, so I can’t really tell you exactly how much each ingredient you need. The consistency you want to achieve is a rather thick one so that thick coating will stay on.)
– flour
– cold water
– a pinch of baking powder
– salt
salt
1. Heat oil to 180 degrees C (or 360 degrees F).
2. Make batter by combining the ingredients.
3. Dip the Brussels sprouts into the batter. Coat them well.
4. Deep-fry in the oil for about 4 minutes until the outside is crispy and the inside is tender.
5. Remove from oil and drain on paper towel. Sprinkle salt. Serve with ketchup or other sauce you like.
芽キャベツフリッター
最近ス―パーでよく見かけるのが美味しそうな芽キャベツ。
そんな季節なのでしょうね。
うちは野菜をもりもり食べるので、火を入れないといけない野菜は大抵毎回2袋ずつ購入します。
茹でないといけない、とか、ローストしないといけない、というならば、1袋でも2袋でも一緒ですから。
で、芽キャベツも2袋買ってきたのはいいものの、いざ袋から出してみると、結構スゴイ量(笑)。
で、いつもはオーブンでローストするのですが、今回は少し残して、フリッターにしてみました。
さっくさくの衣に、中は、ほくほく甘い芽キャベツ。
意外な!おいしさに自分がびっくり(笑)。
キャベツは特に好物、とは言えないテリーですか、写真に見える分全部一人で食べちゃいました!
トマトケチャップでも、BBQソースでも、どんなソースにもあいますよ~。
これなら、ハンバーガーのつけあわせに、フライドポテトの代わりとしてもいいかも。
