Steak Tomato Rice Bowl
When we started the 95% plant based diet, what really shocked me was that it was almost exactly how I used to eat when I was a child. Growing up in Japan we did eat meat, but meat was usually used as a small part of a main dish. Even if the meat was the main dish, it was served with lots of vegetables and the vegetables usually covered about half the plate.
The other cool thing about the traditional Japanese meal is that it consists of many small dishes. You have a bowl of rice, a bowl of miso soup, a plate of some type of meat or fish and vegetables, maybe a small bowl of vegetable or bean, or seaweed dish, and a small plate of pickles. It just feels right for me to be on this 95% plant based diet. It almost like going back to my roots.
This steak tomato rice bowl is not quite 95% plant based itself, but this is fresh, satisfying, super tasty, and a pretty well-balanced dish itself. The tomato salad and the green sauce really make the whole dish taste fresh. It’s not always easy to make small dishes for every meal especially when you want to have your dinner ready in 20 minutes after a long work day. But this can become a meal closer to 95% plant based if served even just with soup and a large plate of pickles.
