Gorgonzola Potato Pizza
I enjoy spending time cooking on the weekend.
I usually have lot of ideas, and by Friday (sometime Thursday) I’m ready to pick up specific ingredients.
However, last week I was out of ideas.
No new dishes I wanted to try out.
Then Saturday morning I decided to walk to the farmers market, not really expecting much other than thinking of picking up some fresh vegetables for the following week.
I shouldn’t be surprised at this time of the year, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the farmers market was in full swing!
There were so many varieties and so many interesting things you can’t find at regular grocery stores!
I quickly realized that my $20 dollar budget was too small.
But I was happy walking back home because I was with a bag full of fresh produce and I couldn’t wait to experiment with them in my kitchen!
I definitely got the idea for this pizza from the farmers market.
I had some gorgonzola cheese left from our last weeks party, and I thought using these beautiful mini potatoes would be a perfect match and be placed together on pizza.
I was so right!
This pizza was delicious and beautiful.
The pink and purple potato slices looked like pepperoni and that was kind of fun (not that we missed pepperoni or other meat on this pizza).
crust(adapted from this recipe) this makes about 4 ~ 5 pizzas the size in the pictures
– 1 tablespoon dry yeast
– 1.5 cups lukewarm water
– a pinch of salt
– 1 teaspoon sugar
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 2 cups bread flour
– 1.5 cups all purpose flour
toppings (makes about 2 pizzas)
– 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
– 5~7 small potatoes, sliced, brushed with olive oil
– 2 small red onions, sauteed
– 1/3 cup gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
salt and pepper
thyme
1. Make crust. Combine the first 5 ingredients. Dissolve yeast. Add flour. Knead into a ball. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise for about 1 hour.
2. Preheat oven at 450 F.
3. Roll out dough. Bake the crust without toppings for 3 minutes. Take it out of the oven. Place mozzarella cheese, potatoes, red onions, and gorgonzolla cheese. Put it back in the oven. Bake for another 8~12 minutes until the crust turns brown on the edge.
4. Salt and pepper. Sprinkle fresh thyme.

Pretty recipe 😀
How much water do you add to the yeast? (written as 1.5 lukewarm water)

Hi Vikki,
I meant to say “1.5 cups”. Sorry about that.
